Key CCE Programme
In our efforts to nurture students who are caring and gracious citizens, Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) in Yumin is delivered through a 3-Phase TRA approach; Teaching, Reinforcement and Application. This is in line with MOE’s CCE learning outcomes and 21st Century Competencies. The teaching of CCE is developmental and progressive, with structured programmes for each level.

Values-in-Action (VIA) & Learning for Life (LLP)
Values-in-Action (VIA) are learning experiences that support students’ development as socially responsible citizens who contribute meaningfully to the community, through the learning and application of values, knowledge and skills. VIA fosters student ownership over how they contribute to the community. As part of VIA, students reflect on their experience, the values they have put into practice, and how they can continue to contribute meaningfully. VIA is an important component of CCE.
Bronfrenbrenner’s Model
Bronfenbrenner’s model enables teachers to understand the fundamental relationships with their students and create a communication rich classroom that involves the parents. It also displays how the community and culture that the children are surrounded by greatly influence their development as well. Things such as media, school or a child’s neighbourhood can shape how he or she develops.
Learning for Life Programme (LLP)
Learning for Life Programme (LLP), Project ACTivAte, aims to develop Yumin Champions through knowledge application, independent learning, collaboration and communication. It is an iterative learning process of empathy-ideation-action that involves students applying knowledge and skills to real life situations based on themes or concepts. In the process, our Champions go through a deep learning experience by putting values into action (VIA), an important component in CCE that harnesses their sense of ownership and proactivity in self-initiated innovative and purposeful projects. The Design for Change (DfC) protocol is used to inculcate advocacy for the age-appropriate themes. Based on the four phases of Design for Change (DfC) as the design thinking protocol namely Feel out a problem, Imagine possible solutions, Do to make changes, Share the story. This process allows students to go through in-depth inquiry, engaging in an extended, rigorous process of asking questions, sourcing for information, utilizing relevant resources, and developing answers to meet the needs of the beneficiaries. This is a key process in ensuring problem solving skills, critical and creative thinking, digital literacy and communication skills are explicitly taught.

National Education
National Education (NE) is an important part of our holistic education. We aim to develop national cohesion, cultivate the instinct for survival as a nation and instil in our students, confidence in our nation’s future. It also emphasises on cultivating a sense of belonging and emotional rootedness to Singapore. Moving forward, we can anchor NE not on the delivery of messages but on the design of experiences that strengthen our students’ and fellow educators’ citizenship dispositions, to inspire all of us to take collective ownership of our future as a nation.
